The following NEMA classification basically refers to the protection of persons against unintentional contact with objects in the equipment as well as protection against external influences on an enclosure. ​ NEMA 1 / IP 23: Indoor installation, protects against falling dirt. NEMA 2 / IP 30: Indoor installation, protects against falling dirt and dripping water. ​ NEMA 3 / IP 64: Outdoor installation, protects against rain, sleet and windblown dust; also protects against damage caused by external ice formation on the enclosure. ​ NEMA 3R / IP 64: Outdoor installation, protects against rain, sleet: also protects against damage caused by the formation of external ice on the cabinet.
